Newport man dies after falling from railing at Newport Beach park

Posted October 17, 2018 12:00:12 A 29-year-old Newport Beach man died Saturday after falling off a railing at a Newport Beach playground and hitting his head on a tree branch, authorities said.

The Orange County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Daniel S. Leung, of Newport Beach.

The cause of death was an acute head injury, the coroner’s office said.

Leong, who was employed at the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, had been at the park with two friends, who were playing with the boys’ dog, Orange County sheriff’s spokeswoman Alicia Sanchez said.

Sanchez said the boys got into a fight with the man, who fell to the ground.

Le, who is white, was taken to Santa Ana Valley Hospital, where he died, Sanchez said in a statement.

Authorities have not identified the dogs owner.

The beach playground was open to the public.

A sign posted on the playground reading “No dogs allowed” was removed, Sanchez wrote.

A message on the park’s Facebook page said, “We will continue to monitor this situation and make every effort to re-open the playground as soon as possible.”

Leung was a graduate of the Orange Coast College in Newport Beach, according to the school’s website.

Le’s death came less than a week after a 19-year old man fell to his death in the park, the Newport Beach News reported.
